I can just see you falling about laughing, unless you’re one of those wonderful people who are indeed organised. I try so hard to do this, but have to confess that even though I’m very much a ‘list’ person these days, I was actually much more organised when the kids were little. One child’s birthday a week before Christmas and the other child’s birthday a week after New Year’s meant a LOT of planning to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible … birthdays, Christmas, New Year … all within about 3 weeks of each other … what could go wrong?!!

I thought it may be worth revisiting a post I did years ago about managing your website over Christmas. I thought about this list over the weekend as I was putting up the chrissie tree and though it would be useful to update it. But on reflection, the list is as similar today as it was when I first put it together a few years ago!

The only thing I would add though is to make sure you’ve got your social media channels covered – just because you (and your customers) may be on holidays over the break, that doesn’t mean Facebook, Insta or Twitter don’t keep rolling on. It may also be a great time to reconnect with your customers and get yourself top of mind for the new year.

So I’ll add a Number 11 …

11. Social Media posts – are you organised?

If you post regularly, you should try and keep up the routine. Facebook is pretty straight forward – you can schedule posts so they continue without a break. Instagram needs you to be present so depending on how regularly you post, you may want to let your followers that you are taking a break, and the same applies to any other channels you may be using. There are also options like hootsuite.com which allows you to manage multiple social media accounts from one place – this may be worth investigating as a longer term strategy as well. There’s a great article on Hootsuite about creating a social media plan that’s worth reading too. Whatever you decide to do, the beauty of social media is you don’t have to be in the office but it helps if you’re organised!
