Changes are afoot!

Facebook, like Google, have a complex algorithm to show you your news feed or search results. Personally, I find it a bit creepy when you’re searching for something and then that very thing pops up as a sponsored or popular post. Don’t really want to think about that too much … but the changes that are happening now are a little different … there’ll be less of the business posts and more of your personal network posts. Lots of arguments for and against, but regardless it will have an impact, particularly if you have a Fb business page.

These changes were announced a week or so ago – you can read the from Mark Zuckerberg here (if you are on Facebook) but in a nutshell,

We started making changes in this direction last year, but it will take months for this new focus to make its way through all our products. The first changes you’ll see will be in News Feed, where you can expect to see more from your friends, family and groups.

As we roll this out, you’ll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media. And the public content you see more will be held to the same standard — it should encourage meaningful interactions between people.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook, 11 January 2018

You can read this great post from ABC News that explains the changes.

So, if you have a Fb business page and use it as your primary method to promote your business (for free) you may need to rethink that strategy. Not everyone is on Facebook (yes, I know!!), and now more than ever, there are things you should be aware of and his post by Stevie Says Social explains it really well.

I’d love to hear what you think about the changes!
