A new site for Southern Cross GeoScience, a new research centre at at Southern Cross University (2009). The overall design was done by the SCU advertising agency (see screenshot), and my task was to turn that design into a fully functioning website. There was some negotiation over the final website template, but ultimately, all were pleased with the finished product. Tasks included all aspects of developing a new website through to final testing and training.
A major part of this site development was adherence to best-practice SEO. Well written content, appropriate keywords and other meta tags, and well structured pages all contributed to GeoSciences’s rise from page 10 of Google search results on site release in July 2009 to page 2 in January 2011. The site now appears regularly on page 1 when you search for “geoscience” (a very broad search term!).
Release date: mid 2009
